Join us for a discussion with basketball star Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, in Ellis Auditorium. The event is open to the public and free! Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir was the first Muslim woman to play covered in NCAA history. After a successful collegiate career, winning championships and national awards, she hoped to play professionally in Europe until she was informed of an International Basketball Federation rule prohibiting large head gear. She started the online campaign, “Muslim Girls Hoop Too,” to raise awareness for Muslim women in sports. She will speak about the struggles and difficulties of being a Muslim woman athlete in America, while trying to hold on to faith and values.
